GOSH, WHAT A GOOD CONCERT

image

Back from They Might Be Giants and it was really great.

The first act Moon Hooch was really good, some kind of jazz dubstep featuring saxophone mating dances and a crazy light show. Unfortunately, we were like right in front of the speakers and I think I went deaf. Fortunately, my hearing returned by the time those giant guys started.

It was a really good performance with a lot of songs. They played all of Flood backwards and all of Lincoln…except the other 18 songs. New songs, old songs…a song I was pretty sure they made up on the spot. It was overall fun and great and there was lots of bouncing and head bobbing. I was at the very front on the left of the stage near Marty, who I got a hi five from at the end of the show and talked to a bit. John kept staring in my general vicinity though…he’s a very starey man…

So yes, a very lively show, lots of fun, only slightly deaf now, bought a signed cd of nanobots and camille got a shirt. a plusplus would recommend.

Apollo 18 interactive fiction game

breadhair:

In honor of Apollo 18 day, how about revisiting that track by track interactive fiction game that was released last year? It’s geeky awesome fun!

I really really love this in theory but I just have these terrible memories of being like 7 years old and trying to play my older brother’s games like that and getting FRUSTRATED AS FUCK because I could never get anywhere with them—like, every single thing I would try to do it would tell me was a thing I couldn’t do. So I haven’t tried any of these. Are they actually PLAYABLE BY A REASONABLE PERSON? I mean, I am not a little kid anymore, so maybe I’d be a lot better at it, but I just have these bad memories, man.

oh god these

It’s a science song the way ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ is a science song,” he explains. “It’s taking some terms from the world of semi-popular science and kind of tossing them around. It’s not an information song, but it is a song,” adds Flansburgh. “I’m not denying it’s a song,” counters Linnell.

Yeh I think a lot of people sort of think like, "What would the difference be between a They Might Be Giants adult record and the kids' record?"
JL:
I think one of the rules was, if it made kids cry, we wouldn't put it on the children's record.

They Might Be Giants-Meet James Ensor

Off of John Henry

Interesting story about this one, this was the only TMBG song I ever heard played on the radio albeit it was a Sirius XM station called Deep Tracks, but I think they went a little too deep on that one, thus spawning an awkward two minute period of staring in between my sister and me.

No, wait, I’ve got a better one. One time, I was in a church parking lot with Bart and Joe and for President’s Day (?), they were playing songs and James K Polk came on and I knew all the words oops.
